Cannot display Full Screen using ATI Radeon ?
I just tried on a Samsung 24″ S24A350H, and I’ve test with VGA output from display card to the Monitor working fine with 1920 x 1080 60Hz. There is a HDMI port in this monitor and I’ve DVI output from my ATI Radeon 5750. So I plug the DVI to DVI -> HDMI converter to the monitor, and installed all the newest drivers from Samsung and face a problem that the screen cannot be full like the image below.

The corner do not stick to the screen
I’ve set the settings to 1920 x 1080 with 60 Hz. But the screen is not getting full. So I found the solution about this.
Solution to solve
Download and install the latest version of AMD Catalyst Software Suite from AMD official website in here.
[adrotate banner=”1″]
The current version I download while writing this article is Catalyst Software Suite 100.9 MB 11.11 11/15/2011.
After install and restart, then right click on your Desktop and click for the Catalyst Control Center
Then it will open up the AMD Catalyst Control Center.
On the left menu, click on My Digital Flat-Panels.
Select the Scaling Options ( Digital Flat-Panels).
Drag from Underscan (15%) to Overscan (0%) until the screen full to the corner of your monitor.
You can see now the screen fit to your monitor and display nicely.
Other Samsung monitor could be solve using this way.

Thank you SO much, I was at my wits end troubleshooting this!
Thank you! this actually worked :P very nice, though overscan @ 0% is too large, so the slider should go where it fits the monitor best. Anyways, this worked very nicely and thank you for posting!
You are welcome, wish this note can help everyone.
Thank You very mutch. I have a new pc an now i can use my screen right !!!
Let´s Play :)
Thank you thank you thank you!!!
It was soo frustrating to discover after I installed my new graphiccard. Never expected going from Nvidia GTX260 to Radeon 6950 would make my screen smaller.
Thank’s man! Helped me a lot!!!!
Thanks alot, realy helped! :)
thx a lot.
but now i just have full screen in game when i run 1920×1080. when i switch to 1600×900 then its not fullscreen any more.
could somebody plz helP?
Thank you so much. Such a relief.
You are welcome.
thanks!!! I was desperate! But not anymore! You made my day! :-)
Awesome man, I’ve been trying to figure this out for the past hour thinking it was my monitor. This helped a ton.
Thank you so much! I originally thought it was the montior as I just upgraded the thing.
Yeah, but my TV is 3D, and when I use overscan, #d is no longer displayed correctly… I supose that is ati’s mistake, and we are all loosers becose we use PC at all!!!
Thanks for much! I just got 2 LG ISP235 (23″) monitors and had this issue right away with my HDMI connection to my AIT Radeon HD 4350 card. I install Catalyst Version 12 and the scaling option is in “scaling options” which is in your screen shot too. This worked perfectly. Thank you.
hi, updated to W8 consumer preview and I managed to install catalyst but it only shows Pinned, Presets, Performance and Power. No flat screens. please advice
Dear Henk,
I’ve update the newest version changed the menu.
dear juzhax, thx but I do not have any options in the Catalist menu. all worked fine with W7 but not anymore. installed video driver using CCC but no succes. I have Dell Zino HD 4300 Radeon and Philips TV. so sad
Wow, my girlfriend and I have had this issue every time we tried and update our drivers, we have had to always revert back to the drivers we got with the cd, just to make it go back to normal. This is so awesome, cant believe it was such an easy fix, thanks so much for posting this :)
as long as you can solve this problem I feel happy too. ;)
If you happy you could buy me a cup of CAFFÈ LATTE, Thank you.
Why in the world is this the default setting? It’s the dumbest default ever. What the hockey puck were they smoking at Radeon???
Thanks so much for shedding light on this, though!
Thanks for posting a helpful how-to. FYI, in my version of AMD Vision Engine Control Center, the option is under My Digital Flat Panels > Scaling Options (Digital Flat-Panel).
Hello this helped me, but when am restarting my system, my screen is going back ( not filling the screen) . but when i check the settings, scaling options are correct 0% overscan. please help
when i restart my system the problem arises again, and the scaling options are good overscan 0%
Yes the problem reoccurs ever time Windows is restarted since updating to the latest driver. I found that rolling back to the previous driver 8.961.0.0 fixed this.
Cheers man, I knew the option to fix this was in the Catalyst program somewhere.
Yeah, did that, now sitting with the issue that it boots without full screen then at a random time while in windows changes it to full screen.
to Eric: Yea, I have the same issue. It doesn’t boot into the full screen even though I have set it to do so in CCC. I have to open CCC, where the setting is still in the correct overscan location (0%), but the screen is still cropped. When I go to adjust the scaling options though, the screen does respond and moves to the correct location. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
i have the same problem,i fixed the scaling already but when i restart or play anything in a lower resolution then 1080p its back.its silly that this is a problem they dont fix.my next video card will be nvidia for sure.does anyone know if there is a fix?
Exactly the same problem for me :
“Yeah, did that, now sitting with the issue that it boots without full screen then at a random time while in windows changes it to full screen.”
well that’d be great if amd actually made CCC work…
This is VERY annoying. Every time when I install new windows I need to fix this scaling on every refresh rate. Waste of time. And I don`t need CCC for office machine. Need to install just to fix this stupid settings. After CCC is installed windows loading time from hdd (not ssd) is almost doubled.. GZ AMD !!!
Hi, since I have updated my drivers, this is happening to me. It happened once before and I figured out how to do it this way before, but now since the update, everytime I turn the PC off and then turn it back on it has reverted to its scaled down size.. Any advice?
Great post. Solved my problem in 10 seconds :) great man thumbs up :)
Thank you SO much
Thanks!
you are the best!!!!thank you
thank you sir you just made me quit smoking and added 10 years to my life you should be a hero for saving my life this was killing me from the inside such a pain thank you so very much
How do I fix this issue in windows 8?
Thanks very much. You hit the nail perfectly on the head. Great screenshots etc. Exactly as you described.
Appreciate it very much.
Dude you are a life saver. I was irritated to my core and was to hang my self. Thanks
You Sir are a lifesaver. Spent most of the day trying to resolve this one, and EXTREMELY well documented and Illustrated instructions no less.
Hi justin, I have tried your way and yes, it does solve the scaling, now my hdmi display become full screen but it is still blurry. Any idea?
Dear Wilson, you need to set the resolution to the maximum, like 1920 x 1080.
If you cannot set, try to install the newest driver for your display card.
Hi Justin, the resolution is the highest 1920×1080, and the driver also is the latest one version 12.8. Really dont know why it does not work for me..
Dear Wilson, may I know that which cable you use ? HDMI or VGA or DIV ?
Try to use HDMI if possible.
Hi justin, i was using hdmi all the time. Btw i solved the issue, turned out my monitor’s overscan option is ON even though i had set overscan 0% in CCC. So what i did, just turned OFF overscan on the monitor and now it looks fine.. Thanks anw :):)
Sir you saved me from going bald. Keep up the good work.
I just downloaded the latest 12.0 software and my catalyst control center does not have all does menus showed on the the picture. It only has: pinned, presets, performance and power. I have a toshiba A660D with radeon HD 4200 graphics card. I will appreciate if you can help me solve this full screen problem. tnx
Fure, I had the same issue. I went back and installed version 11.11 and all the menu items show up. I have Windows 8 and version 11.11 says Vista, but it works fine.

You the man !
Thanks a lot for this post !
I had exactly the same problem, with a samsung 27” monitor.
I had exactly the same problem, with lg 21.5” monitor an this solves my problem. Thanks man!
Mike Goppert, thanks for the help but it did not work. Which graphics card do you have?
your a clever boy well done you saved me so much hair pulling for a old man, thankyou so much
Thanks man .. worked for me =D … FYI .. on HD5650 and E2342
worked like a charm!
Thanks, that fixed my problem with SyncMaster S27b550
OMG THANK YOU!
i know this and it works fine. but why when im paying dota the screen still not full screen like in the window. the resolution already max.
After install and restart and right click on your Desktop but no “Catalyst Control Center” option.
installed perfectly…..
what should i do now.?please help me.
Blessed you. I even bought a HDMI to DVI cable to try and solve this, even had opened CCC and browsed over the features but this went over my head. Thanks a lot.
OMG, It’s work, just worry i cannot use a full sized screen, Thanks a lot.
I’m using a ASUS MX239H
I follow the same instruction and solved the problem. But when I am playing game in 1920 by 1080, some how the screen shrunk again with the black borders. Any help?
Super duper man! Thanks it works fo HDMI! Yahooo!!! Any clue how to enable this now on VGA?
Thank u Dude its solved my problem.
Good on you the man!
almost throw the monitor away,thanks
Perfect…thanks for taking the time.
GG. Thank you!
same problem with a samsung 24 and a planar 27. This does the trick. Thanks!
Hello, I have a catalyst control center with none of the options that appear on the pictures above. Anyone has an idea about how to add all these options? I
Hey there! When I do like you said, its working but when im restarting my computer is back again and everytime im starting it, goes back to default settings?
Nice tweak but after the restart its underscaned again altought the value in CCC stills on overscan 0%. I have to move the slider to correct it! It is realy a strange behavior. Do you have any idea how to set this pernamently???
Thanks for the scaling tip. I have a AOC 27″ monitor. After updating to windows 8.1 on a AMD 7500 HD graphics driver, i was getting the scaling issue. Your tip worked great in getting a full screen again. I will see how this performs over some time and will let you know in case something goes wrong again.
Legend! Thank you.
Thanks! After reading this, the solution seemed simple. This saved me quite a bit of frustration :)
Trank you :)
AWESOME! Thanks mate, I’ve been going nuts trying to Google an answer to this. Although why the ‘default’ (?) setting in Catalyst appears to have been 10% Underscan is something I can’t understand.
Again – thank you Justin!
omg thank you. solved my problem
you are my F*cking hero!
Thank you!
Thank you saved me from getting insane
Thank you so much! This worked perfectly!!!!
TNX mate, you are tha bloody king!!! It’s easy & super efficiently fast! :D
tq bro..problemo solve..
New ATI Catalyst Center a. doesn’t load, b. when it did (before it quit loading) it didn’t have any scaling options – or many options to speak of at all. Have a beautiful 1920×1080 27″ monitor with black borders around the display just as in the image above. Nothing on any forums work.
thank you very much, it saved me!
Thanks for taking the time to post these solutions, now my first decent quality monitor looks even better, I wouldn’t have found the solution by myself, much appreciated. :)
Thank you mate, had problems with my AOC I2770V thanks for the help
great saved my day. internet is incredible
thank a lot dude …… you saved mytime and money …REALLY THANK YOU
got mine to fit but still wont fit my games when i play them they are actually way smaller they dont fill the screen i had the same computer same setup hooked up to the same tv but was running windows 7 home and it worked perfectly and didnt even have to change these settings now i reformated and started using windows 7 professional and now im having this issue any advice?
i updated my ccc and now i have those options avalible try that its version 14.12
Sooo simple solution and so dumb from AMD/Samsung, a big thanx for Justin!
I use my 67″ Samsung for viewing Baseball with MLB,TV The computer is usually shut down in the winter and this spring when I updated everything I had to tip out catalyst and reinstall from scratch. I knew about the scaling option so I was able to get the screen to fit the panel but it isn’t centered, there’s about a 1 inch car on the right side. Not something that i can’t live with but it wasn’t there last year. Ideas?
Overscan did help, and works fine horizontally, however it stretches the screen a little bit too much vertically, is there any way to fix this?
Thank you soooo very much! I searched every corner of the internet for this and I’ve finally found the solution through your post. Thanks again! :)
thank you <3
Bro, thanks so much for this, but to let others know if anyone cant find My Digital Flat-Panels means the advanced preferences are disable (my case) just click on Advance View.
Hi,
I’m facing quite similar problem but this solution doesn’t work, I’m already at max scaling option !
I’ve HD Radeon 6950 and a pc monitor 16:10 1920×1200.
Last AMD drivers and Catalyst suite installed.
Using the HDMI output I can’t have fullscreen there is black borders up and down : I just can choose 1920×1080 maximum.
Using DVI output with VGA adaptater, I can choose 1920×1200 and I’ve fullscreen.
I’m wondering if a HDMI cable has specs for ratios or resolution ? It’s written : Aspect Ration 21:9 and Resolution 3840×2160 4096×2160 …
My Card and Windows Seven see my 16:10 monitor as a HDTV ! but it’s not.
And moreover for this card it is said that the max output resolution for HDMI is 1920×1200, but I can’t figure out.
What is the reality ?
Thanks for your answer !
It’s not the HDMI cables. In spite of all the hype about the need for cables costing hundreds there’s no discernable difference between most HDMI cables because almost all are made by a couple of companies in China. Check out the informations at https://www.bluejeanscable.com/
I ripped out the software and reinstalled with the latest version and everything worked.
Hi,
Sorry @fireboss:disqus it doesn’t work : I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled AMD Catalyst Software Suite (the latest), and it is still the same : with HDMI plugged to my 1920×1200 lcd monitor, I just can choose 1920X1080 … still black borders up and down …
If your monitor is 1920×1200 and you set your display to 1920×1080 there will be black bars on each side to fill the 120 area (1200-1080) that the display doesn’t.
Have you looked at the monitor setup? The card can only display what the monitor allows it to display. You didn’t say what make you monitor is but all have a setup function. It could well be that the monitor is set up to show the display in that way.
Hi, thanks @fireboss:disqus for your time.
The monitor is a LaCie 324, 16:10 1920×1200
Here are screenschots of the OSD menu of the screen :
http://www.anandtech.com/Gallery/Album/103
I’ve tried everythings, even all the aspect ratios as you can see.
In the LaCie 324 specs, the max output resolution for HDMI is 1920×1200 …
I’d try setting the monitor at 1080 P with Smart Zoom, There are so many options that could affect the look that this is something that’s hard to work on unless I’m sitting in front of the screen. to see exactly how it responds when I push the buttons. For me fixing this kind of thing is more intuitive than mechanical.
Sorry I can’t be more specific but I’ve never used the monitor and don’t have access to one.
It’s already the case, smart zoom at 1080p … There is something strange and I think no luck to have full screen with hdmi.
I can have fullscreen with vga, not yet tested with dvi (no cable) but I will …
The output cable should not make a difference,we’re missing something in the setup…can’t say what though
This is how can i do it.
