Thai Rung Union Car
ThaiRung (Thai: ไทยรุ่ง) is the only Thai-based automobile manufacturer, established in 1967, assembling Isuzu, Nissan, and Chevrolet vehicles. In addition to assembly business, TRU manufacture its own brand car, under the name Thairung (also called TR), based on other small and medium truck platform. The company is listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) on November 21, 1994, but is 70% owned by the Phaoenchoke family members. Mr. Sompong Phaoenchoke is the CEO of the company.
In 1999, Thai Rung supplied the Chevrolet plant in Arica, Chile with Grand Adventure body parts to make the Chevrolet Luv Wagon and the Grand Luv, which sold with little success.
In the 3rd quarter of 2003, sales of the long awaited Adventure Master, based on the Isuzu D-Max pickup, finally got under way. There were about 300 units sold/month, to be increased to 500 units. In the meantime the Xciter (based on Nissan Frontier D22) sales were around 100 units/month.
SKD kits are currently being exported to China and Iran. Thai Rung plans to follow Isuzu on supplying Adventure Master kits to other countries, like Egypt, Kenya, and Philippines.
