Fujifilm FinePix HS20EXR / HS22EXR. It is the upgrade model from the successor of Fujifilm FinePix HS10. It uses the same lens as HS10 but change the CMOS sensor from 10MP to 16MP. And, added the EXR technology from the previous model FinePix F300EXR / F305EXR and FinePix F80EXR / F85EXR.
I thought the HS10 have the Dog / Cat Detection feature.
According to Mr. Kenichi Tanaka, Managing Director, FUJIFILM India, “FUJIFILM is the undisputed leader when it comes to innovation. Time and again we have been introducing features and products that are world’s first. Be it the dog / cat detection feature for pet lovers in the F80EXR model or the 30x optical zoom in the HS10 model, we intend bringing the latest to the fore for our discerning customers.”
But the Dog/Cat detection feature is not available in HS10. Luckily the feature is appears to HS20, it can detect many kinds of dogs and cats. Those Dog and Cat types are listed from the Fujifilm site in here

The image quality of the HS10 is not so good. It could be a lot of noise if we are going to use the ISO above 800. I think the newer model, HS20 provide better image quality. And the maximum ISO can up to ISO 12800.
Another important upgrade is the flash. The HS10 do not support TTL flash, but the HS20 does. I bought the metz mecablitz 36 C-2 for the HS10. Fujifilm do launch two kind of flashgun support HS20EXR only. It is Shoe Mount Flash EF-42 and Shoe Mount Flash EF-20 that can be found in here. Lens Hood, Remote Release & Flash. I think Nikon flash do support for the HS10. Normally Fujifilm company will recommend Metz for their customer.
It does something change on High Speed movie recording. It support High Speed Movie (80 / 160 / 320 fps). Where is the 1000 / 480 fps ?
HS10 has 1000 / 480 / 240 / 120 / 60 fps.
But the HS20 has 320 / 160 / 80 fps only.
Too bad, it is still do not have Bulb mode, the maximum shuttle speed is 30s only. I wish to get more than that, but no luck.
3.0 inch tilting rear LCD with 460,000 pixels, yeah, I need higher quality LCD to be viewed after taking each photo.
Some people searching for
PowerShot SX30 IS vs Fujifilm HS20.
Definitely I will go for HS20.
Because I like the manual zoom of the HS20 or HS10.
Full HD movie, 1080p that is 1920 x 1280 pix with 30fps
HS Movie up to 320fps or 1000fps in HS10
Cheaper filter price, because it is 58mm but SX30 is 67mm.
AA battery, I like AA battery now days, because most of the Flashgun you need AA battery, so, everybody do have AA batter.
If using the Sanyo Eneloop rechargable battery can take up to 700 photos without flash.
The price of the HS20 is expensive because it is still new. I think I will be waiting for the HS30EXR / HS33EXR in the future. Maybe that time it would be 45x optical zoom and higher resolution CMOS and faster speed.
